Does your environment affect your behaviour?

Calm home that supports the nervous system

We underestimate our environment and the subtle effects it has on how we move, behave and feel. Our surroundings are constantly communicating with our nervous system.

The layouts of a room, the textures you feel, the lifestyle you build in your homes, the level of visual clutter, the experience you create, the values you embody within your home, the colours, the décor according to YOUR personality and psychological needs, each and every element mentioned above contributes to your environment and how harmonious it feels.

This is the essence of environmental psychology: our surroundings shape our emotional wellbeing, stress levels, behaviour, and overall sense of balance.

An orderly environment helps with regulating your nervous system. I want you to think about a space you may have entered and body felt relaxed, your shoulders immediately down, as if your body has exhaled without knowing why. This feeling is rarely accidental. masterfully created and engineered by designers.

A private email series with behind-the-scenes reflections, lived insights, and the work of building a wellbeing-led life and business.

I often see people return from cafés, functions or destination are inspired to recreate what they've experienced at home. While inspiration is valuable, what works in one environment may not necessarily be what your body needs every day. This needs to be done extremely carefully. that style can be visually impressive but can evoke a different feeling and leave you on edge. In your body this translates as something feels off. Your environment may not be supporting the version of yourself you're trying to become and this principle extends far beyond the home

For entrepreneurs, business owners, wellness practitioners, and hospitality brands, the spaces we work from and welcome others into are constantly shaping experience and perception. If you need your clients to feel relaxed and safe then the environment must reflect that. If you want your clients/customers to have an experience and evoke a brand feeling, then your environment should also reflect that. Yes there maybe some limitations in commercial buildings, yet you can still make subtle and easy shifts to get the best out of you and who you serve. The environment is a reflection and an extension of you and your brand.

Regardless of who you are and what you do, the rule is, an orderly environment is what will promote order into your life and keep your state balanced.
