Why I combine design and development
Interior design has always been a huge passion of mine, its the only thing I knew and felt comfortable with. I'm the 90s kid so WiFi and the Internet came a little later and when it did arrive it wasn't as advanced as it is now, which means there was plenty of time to play and find things to do. I remember me and my brother would build houses out of shoeboxes in our spare time. School I hated and only took interest when it had something to do with creativity and maybe business oriented lessons. Overall Designing was a safe place for me, I wasn't particularly a happy child so it felt like a protection, id be in the zone and flow state shall I say whilst making these houses. Fast forward to a couple of years back, when I did open the door back to design after walking away from my old business, I took a trip to Chelsea in London and visited the famous design centre and a luxurious show home! I saw handmade grandeur chandeliers that was being sold at 50k, luxurious fabrics, beautiful surface materials used in the most expensive projects and hotels, lighting and lamps collaborated with swrovski, a beautiful dining table at luxdecor which I wanted to pick up and take home.
A beautiful Handcrafted chandelier, made from rock crystals spotted on my walk in Chelsea.
Whilst spending the day mesmerised by the craftsmanship and how it inspired me, I got home and my heart sank, something didn't connect and felt missing. Going back and forth, frustrated for a good number of days I realised, I myself went through and currently going through a healing journey, as much as design is a powerful tool to enhance your wellbeing yet it's still incomplete. Second of all, if I designed for a client and focused on aesthetics along with filling their homes up with 50k tables and luxury furniture I would feel extremely unfilled and not do myself or them the justice, it seemed all superficial to me and this is where questions arised, "Some people live in luxury homes, villas and penthouses yet are not happy with their lives or in some areas of their lives". "What is the point of spending hefty price tags just to make your home look beautiful but your children or spouse does not feel safe" I can walk into a building and intuitively read the energy and I find that "Some homes are beautiful on the outside yet lack essence within".

FinalIy I connected the dots where my research into the holistic design and human centered approach with development began. As much as our buildings shape us, we shape our building's. The way I see it is, A home is a place for intimate relationships, a place where future generations are nurtured, developed and raised. If these very relationships are suffering or you yourself are in distress then you cannot enjoy your home as a safe haven that its supposed to be. During my "connecting the dots" phase I read this analogy, an aquarium with no fishes would be an empty glass box right? Nothing interesting, and I'm sure you'd agree that the aquarium would have no essence. So, the same way fishes make the aquarium we as human beings make up a building.
We form a very large and an important part of our environment. We are complexed and powerful, comprising of emotions, energy, personality, life experiences, world view and behaviour. Most importantly we are mind, body and a soul, therefore our homes must support that.
The lack of development in ourselves will jeopardise our lives and the environment that we live in or a part of. From the lack of development and growth, a building will just be a building, a house will not be a home. It'll be superficial with no essence. And this is the very reason I take the approach I do.
